Holiday Boutique

It's been a really long week.  First I had 52 hours at my job, the one that keeps me from being a starving artist.  Then I had to plan, research and start ordering items wholesale for my winter SnowyOwl Paper Crafts sales.  I also had to find discounted single versions of the items in order to create one example of each project for the city Holiday Boutique submission requirement Friday, 9/7/12 at 5:00 PM.

I am happy with my success.  I created one small and one large spool ornament.  These are also going to be available in multiple colors, additional embellishments and atleast two other characters - Santas and Angels.

Then I created various boxes for displaying your gift items before and during the holiday season.  These are also going to be available in more colors and designs.  I will have a different green on the tube/box and embellishments making it more of a Christmas Tree.  There will be blue Angels, white Snowmen and red Santas.  The miniture drawers will have more embossed surfaces and a much better paint job.  The tag/mini card shown in one size here and one size in an additional photo will be more decorative and come in various colors.  My favorite the cupcake will be available in various color scemes with additional details/embellishments.

Lastly for this season the wall art.  This was the least completed item submitted for review to the city.  I am hoping they see the potential for this item and I did let them know it would be something personalized so maybe they will overlook the blank spaces.  I was having trouble printing royalty free vintage Christmas photos in sizes that would fit in the space I was working with.  I plan to print "Peace", "Joy", "Merry Christmas" and more to place in the larger space and add as a personalization when the purchase is completed.  I will add more embellishments but I ran out of drying time for attaching them.

I also submitted photos of older projects and stated I would be offering them in various colors and embellishments because you are only able to sell what is seen by the selection panel.  I submitted an altered journal and survival kits photos.

Happy Birthday Banner

This is the completed banner for Ruben's 50th birthday celebration.  Kyle helped me hang it while Ruben was sleeping last night so when he got up in the morning her was surprised.

I'm glad the banner turned out so awesome (photos unfortunately don't reflect). I will have to attempt some better detailed photos when we take it down.

I adore MOD PODGE

I use MOD PODGE for decoupage but while scanning the adhesive aisle at JoAnn's this afternoon I found gold when I came across 'Dimensional Magic'.  I still had not come to a concrete decision on how to decorate the "Sizzix" shadow letters but now I have used the dimensional medium on the foreground letters giving then the look of gloss epoxy. This product is simply genius.

Happy 50th Birthday Ruben

I started with 1 "Strathmore" textured blue 19"x 25.5" paper.  Cut it down to 6"x 3" pieces (13 of them to be exact).  Then I tented 1/2" on top and came up about 1 1/2" from the middle and cut a triangle out.  I painted them with mixture of "Liquitex" iridescent medium and "Jacquard" Pearl-Ex pigment in antique silver (#662). This gave me the pennants that I will attach to the macrame rope.  I also have a sheet of extra 6"x8" that I will cut to use for the '50th' that I will place in the center of the banner.

Next onto the balloons which I used 1 "Canson Mi-Teintes" light blue  19"x25"(again slightly texture paper, but not marked as such).  I cut 15 of them with my "Sizzix" XL Balloon shape.  Then they were run though the "Sizzix" again with a "Cutterbug" emboss with various gear shapes (forgot the name and would you know they didn't mark the emboss sleeve).  I will add the '50th' with two balloons facing one another looking like a heart under the numbers.  I will be adding detail with gold pigment ink around the edges of all 15 balloons before attaching them to the pennants with a little height.

Then I cut out the background of the 13 letters with a dark patterned scrap from my "Sizzix" shadow letters.  And the foreground letters with a light blue print scrap with the "Sizzix" shadow letters.  These will attach with some detail work to the balloons that are affixed to the pennants.

Kyle will help me attach this banner inside the house to the front windows while Ruben is at work on Thursday.  I wanted to wait and surprise him on Friday but he took the day off work.  I think he will be happily surprised all the same.

Further photos pending the completion of the entire banner.

Still playing with digital Owl ideas

Here is my second go of creating a digital Owl.  I have my reservations about the color scheme on this one but I love the way it came out texturally.

My Owl Design

While considering which shapes to use for my business design I created this owl digitally using ovals, teardrops, suns,  hearts, donuts a morphed triangle and an 7 point star. I'm going to work on the JPEG version I saved when I get home from work to soften the whole photo and use it as a background for my business cards.
